"AI is coming for your job."

The argument that it will eliminate jobs is based on the claim that no other industry has ever experienced this.

Cassettes replaced vinyl records, CDs replaced cassettes and now streaming platforms replaced CDs.

Better technology always replaces old technology.

This isn't the Big Bang, which only happens once a billion years.

We see job disruption all the time in every market.

However, an argument can be made that jobs will get disrupted, and people must upgrade their skill sets.

Capterra conducted a survey to find the impact of AI on the hiring market and found out:

• 63% of companies hired more

• 28% remained the same

• 9% reduced their staff and replaced them with AI

Companies are still hiring. And they are hiring even more.

Now, I'm not saying AI won't change a few job markets.

But the shift will not be sudden like a thunder strike. Instead, it will be like a big glacier melting.

Everyone will have time to adapt.

People who make such an argument somehow forget the positive impact of AI on the job market.

I'll give you 3 reasons today:

1. Better entry-level jobs

Since AI is taking all the mindless repetitive work, companies will be able to create better entry-level jobs.

Earlier candidates were paid in pennies because they were doing non-creative work, which required no hard skills.

But now, jobs might be posted with higher demand for creative work, resulting in higher pay.

2. Creative tasks

Our ability to develop ideas took our species up the food chain.

No matter how fast we develop AI, it still can never be taught to come up with groundbreaking ideas.

I often say AI is for legwork, not mind-work.

Jobs that require deep thinking can never be replaced.

3. Relationship matter

Most businesses thrive on their ability to create relationships with their customer.

You can create an AI chatbot that will handle the basic query, but at the end of the day, talking with a real human can never be replaced.

We crave human touch. And it's a good thing.

What you can do to stay ahead of the curve?

Upskill

You might be in trouble if your current job doesn't require decision-making, creativity and non-transferable skills.

The best way to handle the situation is to upskill (which you should be doing anyway). But AI has forced many people to think about the value they bring to the table.

If a few lines of code replaced your job, then what you did wasn't worth doing anyway.

It didn't bring out the best in you. It didn't push you to the limit.

Maybe AI won't eat your job, but it can affect how you work.
