Founder takes too long to build an MVP.

They lack technical skills, hire the wrong people or don’t know how to start.

But then few take it seriously and make a successful side hustle.

10 businesses that started as MVPs but now make $10,000+/month:

1. Carrd

This app helps non-technical people make websites.

Founder AJ built this business to solve his own problems. It took him less than a year to build an MVP, and now it’s one of the world’s top website developers.

The business is now making $100k/month.

2. Superlemon

This one lets e-commerce stores connect with customers on WhatsApp.

Preetam built the MVP in two weeks with his college friend. He identified the natural communication gap between Shopify owners and customers.

It is making him close to $29k/month.

3. Upvoty

This one lets businesses collect user feedback.

Mike Slaats built this website for his main startup because he couldn’t find any other reliable options to collect user feedback. Funnily, it took him 24 hours to put it together.

Upvoty is now making $20k/month.

4. RemoteOK

This app lets remote workers find gigs.

Pieter Levels found a big gap in the industry since there were no job boards for freelancers. In this economy, where everyone prefers remote jobs, he saw a hungry market.

The side hustle is now making $166k/month.

5. PDF AI

Founded by Dameng Chen, this app lets you interact with any PDF.

It brings your boring PDFs to life. You can ask questions, get summaries, and find info in a second.

He recently hit $100k in revenue.

6. ChatNode

Park Sacha is the man behind this cool app.

It makes building chatbots for your business super easy. Sacha is already selling this app for $300k.

It made him $15k in May 2024.

7. Leavemealone

One of my favorite businesses on the list, it helps you unsubscribe with one click.

The founder, Danielle, was frustrated with mass promotional emails. Any time she opened her Gmail, it was a shit-show. So, she decided to create a solution herself.

The app is making $10k/month.

8. HeadshotPro

This app lets you take professional headshots at home.

Danny Postma, a serial coder, noticed the AI’s ability to change faces. He targeted introverted employees who wanted to take formal pictures at home.

It is making him $25k/month.

9. Stripo

This app allows you to create email templates with no technical skills.

Dmitry Kudrenko found a gap in the market. Marketers were struggling to create templates for their clients. The assessment was right on the money.

The app is now making $400k/month.

10. Audiopen

Louis Pereira is a part-time Indie hacker who built this product as a side project.

It converts your voice notes into summaries that you can share.

The app makes him close to $15,000/month and is ranked #1 on Product Hunt.

My take:

Most founders built their apps as a side hustle.

They had a great idea and the right skills.
